We have written this fantastic blog surrounding pallet racking terminology. Take a look below and let us know what you think!

Pallet Racking Terminology

Frame:

This is the end that supports the beam. A frame is constructed of x2 uprights, feet and bracing.

Upright:

An upright is a single upright that when joined with another upright, bracing and feet construct a frame.

Beam:

A beam is the support to which your stored pallets sit upon.

Locking Pins:

Locking pins slot into beams in order to lock the beams into place. These are also commonly known as safety locks.

Floor Bolts:

As the name suggest floor bolts or floor fixings as they are sometimes referred to as, fix the pallet racking to the floor. All uprights should be bolted the floor as per manufacturers and suppliers instructions.

Row Ties:

When you have more than 1 run of racking row ties are used to tie the frames together.

Pallet Support Bars:

Pallet support bars are lateral beams that fit onto the main beam to offer additional support to the stored pallets.

Bay (s):

A bay is the term that is given to the space between two pallet racking uprights.

Levels:

A level is the level to which pallets are stored this often includes the floor as the first level even though there is not a beam in place here. So for example a bay with 3 levels will have 2 beam levels.

Pallet Positions:

Pallet positions simply means the number of pallet positions within a pallet racking system.
